Dear Fellow MCC Homeowner,

You haven't heard from me for too long and as Vice President of your Board, I'd like to take a few minutes to remind you who Rico is and what he stands for. I'm sure not all of you are going to agree with me and that is your right to agree or not agree.

I gave over three years in the U.S Marine Corps in WW II and one of the things we fought for was free speech. No one is going to take that away from me. I am frustrated with myself for not letting you hear from me more. I am concerned that my positions on current HOA issues are not made clear to you. I disagree with decisions often and strongly but am overruled.

As you know, we no longer distribute our newsletter "The Mosquito" . I did not and do not agree with this decision. My column in "The Mosquito" was the only opportunity to get my opinion on HOA and Board issues to you. I think it should be circulated again immediately. Especially with Elections coming soon and the new budget, the Board needs to do a better job of getting you better information and in a timely manner. "The Mosquito" helped accomplish this. 

The attendance at the monthly meetings is low and it has become impossible to keep the entire membership informed and up to date. Important decisions are made, mostly in "Executive Session" after meetings, with only 10 - 15 members having heard what the Board has to say. Except for those few in attendance, the opinions and positions individual Directors remain unknown or unclear. In an association of at least 300 members, I do not believe this is good representation. We need to do a better job for you.

From my perspective as a Director, I consider disclosure by the Board to be at an all time low. This has fostered an atmosphere that discourages participation by the membership and even some Directors in the decision making process. Moving forward into 2008 and the Elections, I encourage you to take their Board of Directors to task and ask hard questions, review our decisions and most importantly, do your part as member, to understand the issues we determine on your behalf. 

I feel it is my duty to let you know, I still do my best to stand up for what I told you I would - an open, transparent Board. I have pushed for Full Disclosure. I do not agree with the forum being closed or censored. I think the Owners are due more information about our contracts and how we manage Mesquite. As Vice President, I should have access to more information and with more time to review them, before decision are made, but do not.

I could use your help. Please be interested and get involved. You have entrusted us the Board, to make decisions for you, your families and investments. As a Board of Directors, we are only accountable if you hold us accountable. Push your Board for full disclosure, open discussion and check up on us from time to time. 

Give me a hand and do your part. I cannot do it without your help, but I will not stop trying.

Please get the word out to your fellow members. Email, write letters but please help spread the word, Rico is still in town and working hard for you.
