Hi,
Tomorrow....Saturday January 29th is an opportunity to meet all of the candidates asking for your vote to serve on the Board of Directors at Mesquite Country Club for the next 2 years.
All of the candidates -- the 3 current Board Members running for reelection and the 3 challengers running as a reform slate -- are expected to be attend, and to make brief statements and answer questions immediately after the Board Meeting. I believe the HOA may even spring for coffee and donuts!
This is an important election. We have literally hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential spending on the horizon over the next few years. This includes repaving roads and coating/painting buildings as well as other expenses as our complex ages.
This is also one of the first elections at Mesquite in recent memory where we actually have candidates running for the same seats-- Board members being elected rather than appointed. We congratulate all the candidates for their willingness to run for a job that pays nothing and requires much time and effort.
This month as you sit down to write out your $1000 special assessment check, also remember that the incumbent Board members originally discussed an assessment of @ $3700/unit (see the old postings on
www.mesquiteowners.com ). It was only because owners like you rose up to ask what the money was going to be used for and why the Reserve Funds were depleted that we have had some financial restraint forced upon the current Board.
Ask the new candidates what they would do to avoid this seemingly endless cycle of special assessments that we have had at Mesquite. And ask the old Board why they let the Reserve Fund become depleted by nearly 90%. Don't let them get away with saying that was a prior Board -- many of them were on that Board as well.
Let's look at the candidates tomorrow and ask them all honest and challenging questions on how they believe Mesquite should be run and where they want to lead us.
And then don't forget to vote!
Cordially,
Tim Gaffney

P.S... This year we plan on mailing out our letter of endorsement for the candidates that we believe will best represent Mesquite. We will do so shortly after the ballots are officially printed by the HOA. This year we again suggest that you send your vote back to us at Box 440, Palm Springs,CA 92263 in the prepaid envelope that we will be including with the ballot so that all votes can be collected and counted prior to presenting them to the HOA for final tabulation.
