REFORM SLATE
Candidates For Mesquite Board of Directors

Frances Scott (Phase 3). I have been an owner at Mesquite since 1994. I have a BS Degree in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin and a Master's Degree in Management from the University of Redlands. I have been a registered nurse employed by the Eisenhower Medical Center Intensive Care Unit since 1976. In 2001 I had the honor to do private duty home care for Mr. Bob Hope until his death in 2003.

My husband and I manage our own rental units, so I understand the value of quality workmanship and competitive bidding. My years as a nurse and a businessperson, have taught me how to deal with vendors, patients, and their families; and how to guide them through the most difficult of life decisions. These are decision-making and people skills that carry over into everyday life situations similar to those we find at Mesquite.

I want to see the natural beauty of Mesquite maintained. I want to see more openness between the Board and owners--especially in matters that impact our money. Finally, I would like to review all of our commitments and expenses from top to bottom to put an end to the cycle of special assessments we have had at Mesquite. fgedell@cs.com

David Krubinski (Phase 4). I am 42 years old, and have lived in the High Desert for the past 32 years. I am a State Licensed Contractor as well as a State Licensed Certified General Appraiser. For the past 18 years I have been an architectural representative.

I believe my experience in these areas will help immensely when we are reviewing vendors and contractors to do work at Mesquite. I am also keenly aware of what other associations are doing in both cost containment and innovation through my contacts and dealings with many different Boards throughout the Valley.

I decided to run for the Board after my involvement as an owner and as a representative for Mer-Kote Products. I saw how a rather ordinary deck-resealing project became needlessly complicated. Although I will pledge to recuse myself on the Board if we have any future dealings with Mercote, I also promise to bring professionalism and discipline to the Board when dealing with future expensive construction projects such as our proposed road and building renovations at Mesquite.

Michael Torhan (Phase 3). I work as a Senior Development Leader and Software Engineer for Sun Microsystems, and have been building teams toward specific goals with diverse personalities for the past 25 years. I am planning on moving to Mesquite full time in the near future.

I believe my main contribution to the Board will be my technical expertise, as well as my ability to bring people together. When a Board of Directors, like any team, does not work together the results are not optimized.

In the hi-tech field there is never enough time to build the product you’d like to build. In an HOA, there is never enough money to make all the improvements you really want. But if we work together and consider everyone’s skills and opinions, we can make the best decisions for our future at Mesquite.
